My friend is trying to get me into being a prepaid legal services associate. Being my friend or scamming me?

What does he get out of signing me up? And is this a scam to begin with?
Your friend is not trying to scam you. Most people who get into prepaid legal believe they are doing something good.
It is not a good business though. Your friend has been sucked in.

READ THE FINE Print…it’s only "prepaid" for the most basic of services…Which don’t include…needing an attorney if your arrested…which oddly enough is WHY most people might need an attorney…The pre-paid part covers basic legal help (most of which you can do yourself anyway)
While not a total scam, it is way too much money for the average person to spend, for services that are generally never going to be used…
And yes he is making a commission on the "sale" They offered this "benifit" at my last employer…it was like $35/check or $70/month…so about $840 a year…I’ve needed a lawyer once in my life so far (I’m 38) 15 years ago, he cost me $700…which being as it was for an arrest…wouldn’t have been covered…so…do the math!

Prepaid legal is part good and mostly scam. Lots of limitations and probably bad legal advice. If you really need help reading contracts, read them, ask questions, hire a real attorney at that time.
Best way to tell if something is a scam: what is the commission level on the sale and who gets the biggest bite of the commission? Prepaid legal is a multi-level marketing concept.
